Table|Room|Stage Commission
The Talented Ones
April 25 - May 22, 2017
Morrison Stage
By Yussef El Guindi
Directed by Jane Unger
The American Dream teeters on the edge of the abyss as immigrants Cindy and Omar face their thwarted dreams and unraveling marriage while Omar’s buddy Patrick connives to push them over the edge. In this surprisingly funny dark comedy, trouble erupts one night when bad choices are followed by verrrrry bad choices. The stakes become lethal as these characters manipulate the truth and do anything to justify their desires.
THE TALENTED ONES is Artists Rep’s first new play development commission for Table|Room|Stage as part of the Oregon Community Foundation’s “Creative Heights Initiative.”

Press
“…sharp, instantly engaging, alternately earnest and sardonic comedy…”
“…just offbeat enough to be unexpectedly funny in moments that could easily seem dark.”
“…haunting play…the truths are so real and the action so raw.”
“…a play that should have no problems finding its way into theatres across the country.”
“…carefully weaves together a difficult tale traversing often conflicting ideals and ideas.”
“THE TALENTED ONES brings the political and the personal together in a dramatic interpretation of the immigrant experience in America, represented by one couple’s failing marriage.”
