Tony Fuemmeler
Puppet Designer/Craftsman
Tony Fuemmeler is a mask maker, puppeteer, and director based in Portland, Oregon. He works in multiple local theaters as well as on stages across the country and abroad and also has created masks for a variety of clients including American Conservatory Theatre, Chehalem Cultural Center, University of Dayton, New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Bloomberg, Portland Actor’s Conservatory, and Oregon Ballet Theatre. A graduate of the University of Kansas and Dell’Arte International, Tony has also trained in traditional mask carving and masked dance in Bali with Nyoman Setiawan and I.B. Gusto; neutral mask and bouffon with Giovanni Fusetti; and leather mask making and commedia dell’arte in Italy with the Sartori family. Last season, he co-directed The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show (Oregon Children’s Theatre), which was awarded a Drammy for Outstanding Achievement in Puppetry. Other recent shows include Tomás and The Library Lady tour (Oregon Children’s Theare), Vanessa Goodwin (Action/Adventure), bugged: a shadow play (Simple Machines), The Spider Queen (The NOLA Project), and Maya (Teach For India/ ASTEP). He is currently working on A Universal Feeling, an collaborative mask installation with 62 artists across the globe.
