Lighting Designer
Peter West is a native New Yorker transplanted to the Pacific Northwest. His early lighting work for groundbreaking modern dance companies such as Cirque/Portland Dance Theatre was followed by many ballets for Oregon Ballet Theatre.
He is Designer in Residence at Portland State University’s Opera Studio, having lit The Merry Widow, Street Scene, Dialogues des Carmélites, La Rondine, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Le Nozze di Figaro. He designed lighting for Carmen, Martha, Der Rosenkavalier, Andrea Chénier, Don Giovanni and Don Pasquale for Portland Opera, for whom he is Assistant Lighting Designer.
He has designed and produced corporate events and trade shows worldwide for Nike, Nordstrom, Nintendo, Skechers, Intel, Autodesk, Hewlett-Packard, Adidas and Dr. Martens. His architectural projects include lighting for The Museum at Warm Springs, the UC Berkeley Anthropological Museum and Niketown Atlanta. He is Resident Lighting Designer at Milagro Theatre, earning four Drammy Awards in previous years.
Recent work for Artists Repertory Theatre includes Seven Guitars, The Motherf***er with the Hat and Exiles. He lit Invasion! and Sans Merci for Badass Theatre Company, Parade for Staged! Musical Theatre Company and Songs for a New World and Hair for Enlightened Theatrics. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Northwest Dance Theatre and is occasionally an adjunct instructor in the theatre departments of Portland Community College and Lewis and Clark College.
