Born and raised in Tallahassee, FL, Josh moved to Portland in summer 2011 for the Portland Playhouse Acting Apprentice Company. It’s been an honor to call Portland home ever since. At Artists Rep: Indecent, Magellanica, We Are Proud to Present…, The Miracle Worker, 4000 Miles, Tribes, Foxfinder. Other Portland Credits: The Winter’s Tale (Portland Shakespeare Project), The Baltimore Waltz (Profile, Drammy Award), Miss Bennet, Major Barbara (Portland Center Stage), Beirut, Tender Napalm (The Shoebox, Drammy Award), A Christmas Carol (Portland Playhouse), The Nether (Third Rail), and Body Awareness (CoHo, Drammy Award). Many thanks to the cast, creative, and production teams for keeping us safe and sharp. And Brandy. Always.
Getting back in the room with Ellen Lewis is such a treat. We worked together previously on the multiple iterations of Magellanica (the 5-1/2 stage version at Artists Rep in 2018 AND the radio drama produced by Artists Rep’s Mercury Company in 2020) as well as some other of her amazing scripts in development during the tumultuous-yet-prolific era of ZOOM THEATRE. Anyone who’s seen one of her plays or read one of her scripts knows that her characters nearly always have a light side and a dark, an yearned-for fantasy juxtaposed with their present reality, and above all: a story to tell. Lucky for all of us, Luan Schooler has been a stalwart champion of Ellen’s words every step of the way – as dramaturg, producer, literary manager, and director of new works. It’s a JOY to step into the room under her leadership again, this time (for my first time!) as director. Deep, deep gratitude to both of them and the entire production team for welcoming me in again to unravel the mystery of this play together.
