Joe Bowden

Joe Bowden is a Japanese, Korean, and white filmmaker based out of Portland, OR. He works as a writer, director, gaffer, director of photography, and production designer in addition to being the owner and founder of Portland’s Desert Island Studios – a mission driven film studio dedicated to diversity and inclusion in the creation of new narrative works.
Born in Colorado and raised in Anchorage, AK, Joe started making films on a Sony Handicam in the late 1990’s before moving to Portland to pursue music and film in 2001. While playing music in bands, touring, managing artists, and booking venues in Portland, Joe co-founded Bladen County Records in 2007. BCR put out records for artists across the United States until Joe left the label in 2012 to focus on filmmaking. In 2016 he founded Desert Island Studios.
