Anna Thorsen

Playwright

Anna is a Swedish/Zambian playwright and screenwriter based in Vancouver, BC. Alongside her writing practice, she works in theatre production as a Dispatcher with IATSE Local 118 and has contributed to more than ten short films as an editor, director, or cinematographer. Anna was selected for the Playwrights Theatre Centre’s Block A 2025/26 Cohort, where she began writing her current play, THE BOX – an absurdist tale in which two people grapple over the contents of a box.

Anna completed a BFA in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia (2025) and also holds a Certificate in Documentary Film Production (Langara College, 2019) and a Diploma in Makeup Artistry (Blanche Macdonald Centre, 2004). At UBC, she served as Associate Producer for the 2024 Brave New Play Rites Festival and was awarded a scholarship to attend and study at the 2024 Sibiu International Theatre Festival.

Before pursuing theatre and film, Anna spent 15 years working as a Visual Merchandiser in corporate retail (Aritzia, Lululemon, Indochino), a clothing designer (By Post Street), a blogger (The Social Life), and an event coordinator and host for queer events in Vancouver, San Francisco, and Los Angeles (TFD Presents, Over The Top Tuesdays, Lipstick & Rouge, Mr. Black SF/LA).

Our Mission

Artists Repertory Theatre’s mission is to produce intimate, provocative theatre and provide a home for a diverse community of artists and audiences to take creative risks.

Land Acknowledgement

ART acknowledges that our theatre rests on land that was stolen from indigenous communities. It belongs to the Cowlitz, Chinook, Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde, and the Siletz — tribes that remain present, strong, and vibrant.

ANTI-RACIST STATEMENT
Artists Repertory Theatre recognizes that we are a predominantly white organization and operate within systemic racism and oppression, and that silence and neutrality are actions of complicity. We recognize the critical role the arts play in our culture and national conversation, and accept our responsibility to make positive change through our work, our practices, and our policies. We commit ourselves to the work of becoming an anti-racism and anti-oppression organization, and will work with urgency to end racial inequities in our industry and our culture.

Artists Repertory Theatre is recognized as a tax-exempt non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; tax ID number 93-0828781. Your contribution qualifies as a charitable contribution under the IRS Code.
