SVETLANA! SVETLANA!

Presented by LineStorm Playwrights and Fuse Theatre Ensemble, in partnership Artists Repertory Theatre’s ArtsHub

Dan Kitrosser and Cassie Greer, in collaboration with LineStorm Playwrights and Fuse Theatre Ensemble, announce a FREE two-night-only production of Kitrosser’s new play, Svetlana! Svetlana! at The Armory on March 19th and 20th, encouraging audience members to donate to Ukraine relief efforts in lieu of a ticket cost. Sherri Eden Barber (currently directing the Hamilton National Tour) directs Kitrosser and Greer – typically a playwright and a director, respectively, appearing here as actors playing a director and a playwright – in this two-person comedy about theatre, freedom, and the life-giving power of story.

Over the course of the two-act play, Kitrosser and Greer play a combined total of 20 characters, as the show navigates its way between the story of present day theatre-makers and the spirited life of Svetlana Alleluyeva, Josef Stalin’s only daughter, who defected from the Soviet Union in 1967. “I am so thrilled to be able to share this new play that has such powerful resonance,” says Greer. “The collaboration and support for this project, coming from all directions, has been truly inspiring, and Dan and I are so honored to have the opportunity to bring these characters to life.”

General admission seating is limited for the evening performance on the 19th and the matinee on the 20th, and attendees are encouraged to reserve free tickets in advance via eventbrite; walk-ins will be accommodated based on availability. In addition to a performance of Kitrosser’s play, Ukrainian-born visual artist Tatyana Ostapenko will present her work in the lobby of the Ellyn Bye Studio Theater, with any sale proceeds also directly benefiting the people of her home country.
