Improvisation for Actors
with Theresa Robbins Dudeck
You’ve probably heard of Theatresports or seen the TV show it inspired, Whose Line Is It Anyway? But did you know that most of the impro methods used in these popular entertainments originated from the work Keith Johnstone developed for/with professional actors at the Royal Court Theatre in London in the 1960s? Impro methods are taught in the best actor training programs around the world. Johnstone’s improv system of training aims to develop and expand the artist’s imagination, range of expression, and to release actors from self-consciousness by altering their attitude towards risk and failure. In this six-week workshop, actors will engage in improvisation tools and techniques, grounded in theory, to support the actor’s process in auditions, rehearsals, and performances (scripted and unscripted).
