Anna Thorsen
Playwright
| Anna is a Swedish/Zambian playwright and screenwriter based in Vancouver, BC. Alongside her writing practice, she works in theatre production as a Dispatcher with IATSE Local 118 and has contributed to more than ten short films as an editor, director, or cinematographer. Anna was selected for the Playwrights Theatre Centre’s Block A 2025/26 Cohort, where she began writing her current play, THE BOX – an absurdist tale in which two people grapple over the contents of a box.
Anna completed a BFA in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia (2025) and also holds a Certificate in Documentary Film Production (Langara College, 2019) and a Diploma in Makeup Artistry (Blanche Macdonald Centre, 2004). At UBC, she served as Associate Producer for the 2024 Brave New Play Rites Festival and was awarded a scholarship to attend and study at the 2024 Sibiu International Theatre Festival. Before pursuing theatre and film, Anna spent 15 years working as a Visual Merchandiser in corporate retail (Aritzia, Lululemon, Indochino), a clothing designer (By Post Street), a blogger (The Social Life), and an event coordinator and host for queer events in Vancouver, San Francisco, and Los Angeles (TFD Presents, Over The Top Tuesdays, Lipstick & Rouge, Mr. Black SF/LA). |
