Frequently Asked Questions
Answering all of the questions related to our 2020/21 season.
ARE YOU STILL HAVING A SEASON?
Yes! Adaptability and Flexibility are the name of the game right now. Artists Rep is programming content for the 2020/21 season, however, how the public is able to consume that programming is going to be modified due to the current crisis. In April, we sent out a programming survey to our patrons and are using your comments to help deliver the content you want to see.
WHAT’S HAPPENING TO THE ARTSHUB?
The ArtsHub is still going strong. Just recently, we welcomed Hand2Mouth and Portland Revels to office space in Zidell. We are talking to other arts organizations who may join the ArtsHub in the upcoming season.
WHAT IS A SUBSCRIBER MEMBER?
A SUBSCRIBER MEMBER has purchased five (5) flex passes at one time for the 2020/21 season. By becoming a SUBSCRIBER MEMBER, you are ensuring that Artists Rep makes it to the 2021/22 season. You are ensuring that Artists Rep continues to produce new work. You are ensuring that Artists Rep keeps pushing boundaries and remains a leader in the artistic landscape in Portland.
ARE YOU GOING TO STREAM/SIMULCAST PRODUCTIONS?
Currently, theatres across the country are working with the unions to figure out a way for arts institutions to stream or simulcast new productions. At this time, the unions are most concerned with those productions that had to immediately shutter because of COVID-19, but will move to making rules around streaming for future productions.
WHAT’S HAPPENING TO THE BUILDING?
Recently, Artists Rep Board member Michael Davidson and The Mercedes and Robert Eichholz Foundation have made an additional $750,000 commitment to RISE – The Campaign for Artists Repertory Theatre. This brings the foundation’s commitment to RISE to an astounding $1.55 million.
With the current pandemic, it is even more imperative for Artists Rep to move back into its home at 1515 Morrison to maintain its day-to-day operations. Howard S. Wright Construction began abatement (removal of hazardous materials) and demolition of the interior of the Morrison Street building on April 27. Design of the new ART facility with two theatres (250 seats and 100 seats), four (4) rehearsal halls and collaborative spaces is nearing completion. Building permits are expected to be issued this summer. With additional fundraising success we will break ground then and move into the new building for the 21/22 season.
FLEX PASSES, WHAT ARE THEY GOOD FOR?
FLEX PASSES – What are they good for, how do I determine how many to get?
- 1 pass for one seat to a live show
- Remote/online access to any virtual content, 1 pass per viewing/listening household (if friends share a package of Flex tickets, then each household that will be viewing needs to use a pass)
- Access to all readings to our rolling festival, Viva la Resilience! (if friends share a package of Flex tickets, then each household that will be viewing needs to use a pass)
- Education Classes & Workshops: each class has a noted amount needed to register
Passes can then be redeemed for a variety of theatre content like the ones above, by contacting the box office once you find something you want to experience.
WHAT PLAYS AND HOW MANY?
Many patrons have been curious to know what live shows and how many there will be?
We would really love to be able to give you a concrete answer now in June, but we cannot. Do know that we have a handful at the ready and have a pretty solid plan to produce 2, and up to 5. Each show will be announced 6 weeks prior to the first performance. Our Subscriber Members with Flex passes will get two weeks to start booking seats before single tickets go on sale 4 weeks before the first performance. (Live shows are hoped to try and resume early 2021) Until it is safe, we also plan to offer for those who are unable to attend a live performance the opportunity to still see a production virtually, which would require one flex pass for those with a subscriber membership.
PLEASE CONSIDER OUR NEW VIRTUAL/AUDIO CONTENT.
Many patrons want to wait and attend live shows. We LOVE you for that, but please consider using those Flex passes for the Online/Virtual content we have planned.
We have theatre artists hard at work (in all areas of production from acting, sound design, stage management, directing.) preparing some really awesome virtual theatre experiences for you and we wouldn’t want you to miss out. We hope by the end of June we can share more specific details and titles, but as this is new territory for all of us once we have the content, we will then workout the logistics of sharing these projects with you.
