Monologues & Scene Work

This class will explore Shakespeare’s comedies:
As You Like it, Twelfth Night, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
It will explore monologues and scene work from these wonderful classic plays. From the forest of Arden, to Illyria, to Athens we will uncover how the text and language from these worlds lives in us and how we communicate meaning through our contemporary selves.
We will explore punctuation and how this opens the door to meaning; alliteration and how this opens our senses to musicality and emotion; address metaphor and simile; and of course scansion, which reveals the heartbeat of the line.
Michael is a Resident Artist at Artists Rep since 2008 and has been a part of well over 40 productions with this outstanding company. Before each class, students will be sent an email with a link to login and any class-specific instructions.
Generally, students are encouraged to have a notepad & a pencil for note-taking.
Students are checked-in by name via the class roster, so no additional ticket or receipt is required!
