Shakespeare Comedies

Monologues & Scene Work

with Michael Mendelson

This class will explore Shakespeare’s comedies:
As You Like it, Twelfth Night, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

It will explore monologues and scene work from these wonderful classic plays. From the forest of Arden, to Illyria, to Athens we will uncover how the text and language from these worlds lives in us and how we communicate meaning through our contemporary selves.

We will explore punctuation and how this opens the door to meaning; alliteration and how this opens our senses to musicality and emotion; address metaphor and simile; and of course scansion, which reveals the heartbeat of the line.
