Aiyana Cunningham (she/her/them) Aiyana Cunningham is a strategic arts leader driven by the transformative power of our collective stories. Over the past 15 years she has been an activator and connector in Portland’s theater community, holding leadership and staff positions at organizations driving change and producing innovative work including Profile Theatre, Portland Center Stage, and The Red Door Project. Aiyana will be leaving her position as Development Director at Portland Playhouse. Through this work she has acquired significant connections within the local cultural ecology, and gained strong knowledge of operational excellence and funding resources. She has built a network of healthy relationships with artists, community partners, significant donors, and our most engaged audience members — all of which she is thrilled to continue stewarding in her new role as Artists Repertory Theatre’s Managing Director. Aiyana is excited to join a talented team that is dedicated to delivering ART’s mission and values. She’s honored to support the creative vision of Artistic Director Jeanette Harrison, and to work alongside Jeanette to lead a thriving company. Aiyana will also work closely with J.S. May in completing the RISE Capital Campaign, funding the renovation and return to ART’s home theater on SW Morrison. She looks forward to working with the many people invested in ART’s bright future as the company expands its presence as a cultural anchor that produces provocative work with an unparalleled commitment to creative incubation.

J.S. May

J.S. (John Stuart) May is seasoned fundraising and communications professional and has worked with a wide range of local, regional, national and international nonprofit organizations. He has helped raise more than $500 million. Since 2018 J.S. has been the managing director for Artist Repertory Theatre, Portland’s oldest profession theatre. For eleven years prior, he was the chief fundraising, marketing and communications officer, and strategist for the Portland Art Museum – Oregon’s premier visual arts institution. Before the Art Museum, for seven years J.S. led the fundraising practice for Metropolitan Group, a Portland-based social marketing firm that works to create a more just and sustainable world. For the six years prior to MG, he supported the growth of the region’s leading pediatric teaching and research hospital as executive director for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation at OHSU. Before Doernbecher, J.S. spent six years supporting the expansion and growth of the region’s most trusted media source as the director of corporate support for Oregon Public Broadcasting. A graduate of the University of Oregon, J.S. has volunteered for numerous nonprofit organizations and has served multiple terms as president of the board for both the Portland Schools Foundation and the Portland Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. He currently serves as president of the Cycle Oregon and is a board member for the Cultural Advocacy Coalition. J.S. is an avid yogi, cyclist, and reader.

Sarah Horton

Sarah Horton joined Artists Repertory Theatre in July of 2010 as a Managing Director. She began her career at Seattle Repertory Theatre, serving in various capacities in the development and marketing departments for six years, before moving to Tucson where she was Arizona Theatre Company’s Director of Communications. She then worked for a marketing and public relations agency in Northern Arizona whose main client was Sedona Cultural Park, a 5,000-seat amphitheatre that presented a variety of popular concerts, music festivals and the Sedona International Film Festival. In 2005 she moved to Portland and joined the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry where she served in various management roles in development, marketing and program sales, including Director of Membership and Program Sales and finally as Interim Vice President of Marketing, Retail and Sales.
