Construction Updates

Phase III complete - come and check out the finished project ! The new staircase that connects our upper and lower levels of the building couldn't be more lovely and the views the new windows provide can't help but be appreciated by patrons and staff alike. The Alder Lobby is now twice its original size and adorned with breathtaking photographs of some of Artists Rep most memorable moments. Thanks to everyone who was here for Opening Night of Holidazed and stayed for the reception and celebratory toast to mark the project's completion.  Special thanks to our architects, Opsis Architecture, and our general contractors, Howard S. Wright Constructors, for their tremendous work.

Watch this space throughout the summer and fall for photos and videos documenting the progress made by our construction crews.

We'll be knocking out walls (inside and out), demolishing offices, moving HVAC systems, and constructing a staircase that is 7 feet wide connecting the upper and lower levels of the building.  We'll also end up with an Alder Lobby that is twice the size of the original and more patron-friendly.

And be sure to come visit in the fall to see how it all looks in person.

Special thanks to our architects, Opsis Architecture, and our general contractors, Howard S. Wright Constructors, for their tremendous work on this project.

July 1 - Update
The construction technically began yesterday, but so far nothing photo-worthy.  We hear large cranes and demolition are in our near-future though, and those are certainly going to be captured on film.  Stay tuned.  For now, check out the architect's rendering of what the Alder Lobby will look like when everything is complete.

August 5 - Update
For the past few weeks the amazing folks from Howard S. Wright constructors have been banging, drilling, and sawing away.  Sometimes it sounds like they're about to fall through the ceiling onto our desks, but these guys are pros!  The space that was formerly the downstairs Box Office and the offices of the Facilities Manager, Technical Director, and Master Carpenter are now all one big room - about to be connected to the existing Alder Lobby.  Upstairs, the guys are busy getting some duct work in place in what used to be the office of the IT Director and is now temporarily part of the kitchen. We're really impressed with everything they've done this week - especially all the work they did last week on the roof in 100+ degree temps!

August 18 - Update
There is now officially a hole in the building!  Last week, Allen Nause and Capital Campaign Chair Charlie Swindells were on hand to help the contractors remove the exterior wall where the staircase will go.  Allen and Charlie are now safely back behind their desks, but the contractors are still working away.  Elsewhere in the building, duct work is going in, telecom lines are being shifted, and the downstairs lobby is on its way to becoming a bigger, better space.

August 31 - Update
The hole in the building is now a hole in the roof as well.  And in addition to removing things, we're also starting to see a lot of new pieces coming into place. Today saw the appearance of the steel beams that will support the home of the new staircase. Downstairs, work progresses on the Alder Lobby while we also make sure it is audience-ready next week!  To see a slide show of photos by professional photographer and friend of Artists Rep, Doug Adler, click here.

September 19 - Update
The crews are doing an incredible job these days - especially with the occasional rain showers. Pieces big and small are starting to come together as the vision for the final product gets closer and closer to reality.  Walls are coming in and one part of the staircase has been put into place - with the help of a big crane in our parking lot.  Its amazing to watch these guys work around a parking lot full of cars.

September 30 - Update
Here's another great slide show montage of our progress over the past few months put together Doug Adler.

October 16 - Update
Less than a month left of construction!  The crews will be done with their work here and all cleared out by November 12 - just in time for the opening of Holidazed the following week.  We'll be celebrating the completion of the project with a champagne toast following the Opening Night performance on the 20th.  At this point, the stairs are physically in place, walls and roofs and in place and its getting easier every day to envision the final product!

November 20 - Update
Complete! The paint is dry, windows sparkling, photographs hung and lighting just right. Come and see the final project just in time for Opening Night of Holidazed and stay after the show for a reception and celebratory toast to mark the project's completion.
